With ageing comes the dreaded jowls for the vast majority of us.
This is partly descent of the soft tissues from volume loss in the mid face and partly that our jaw bone begins to recede and shrink.
Think smaller table (jaw bone), same size tablecloth (the skin and soft tissue on top).
As well as the jawline itself, the chin plays a vital role in supporting the lower face. For too long it has played the under dog and is only recently been recognised as essential for bringing balance and support to the face.
It is vital to maintain the strength of the jawline and the chin for a youthful and balanced appearance. What would be an enormous undertaking surgically is a fast and effective treatment with filler.
Fillers are used to re-sculpt the chin and lower face, restoring volume and contour to create sharper and more youthful appearance.
Strategically injected, the dermal fillers act as a 3-dimensional lattice, supporting and lifting the jawline and correcting any minor deformities in the jowl, softening shadows and creating a more youthful appearance.
The jawline and chin have an essential role in the overall facial shape. Treated effectively they give a more refreshed and attractive appearance.
Candidates chin and jawline are:
- Younger patients who want more definition and balance in the face
- Younger patients with early signs of mid facial ageing (such as flattening of cheek area) and the beginnings of soft tissue descent at the jawline. Usually in their thirties. NB: Mid face would always be addressed first
- Patients in their forties and fifties who are contemplating a face lift but not ripe or ready for surgery
Procedure time: 60 minutes, to include consultation, topical numbing cream and treatment.
Duration: 12 to 24 months, depending on the type of dermal fillers used and individual metabolic variations.[
